The Optimo Style in a fine Panama hat is classic. When Panama hats were first introduced to the N. American and European markets, they were not blocked into styles like fedoras and western style hats. Instead, when the hats were rolled for storage and travel, a crease was created down the middle of the hat that became an attractive style point. Today, we block this style crown and the result is this smart, classic beauty. The grosgrain ribbon trim with a bow finish, a 2 1/2 to 3 inch brim, and a comfortable cotton sweatband complete this hat. Color: Natural. Sizes: Small, Medium, Large and Extra Large.

Cousin Joe used to wear this hat as he wandered through the streets of the French Quarter back in the good old days of antediluvian New Orleans. Here is a hot style in a hot material, Milan Straw, with a very clean genuine leather trim. This is a classy blend of the old and the new. Henschel Hat Company is primarily known for leather headwear so the leather trim denotes the hat’s origins, and Henschel’s High Roller style is a basic. Price variation in Panama hats is mostly about (or should be mostly about) the quality of the material. It is a huge understatement to say that not all Panama are the same. The amount of work required to prepare the straw (from the plant Carloduvica palmata) and to weave the hat bodies can vary from hours to many months. Here you have what is widely regarded as amongst the finest Panama hat bodies in the world, the Montecristi Finos from Manabi Province, Ecuador. These hat bodies are imported to Italy by Borsalino Hat Company where they are blocked and finished as you see pictured here (I envision an Italian movie director strolling down the Via Veneto wearing one of these). Back again to the Western Hemisphere they come, to The Village Hat Shop-next stop the end user. The center pinch crown is 4 1/4 inches high in the front . The brim is 2 5/8 inches. The hat is trimmed with a black grosgrain ribbon that is 1 1/4″ wide. The inside sweatband is a beige grosgrain ribbon. Available color: Natural only. Available size: 57=7 1/8 to 60=7 1/2.

Honoring Kingston, Jamaica with a hat of it’s own has been on my mind for many years. The home of Studio 1 records, Trojan Records, Island, Tuff Gong and birthplace of Desmond Dekker, Derrick Morgan, Stranger Cole, Alton Ellis not to mention Bob, Peter, Bunny, Toots, Jimmy and on and on and on. The city has given us so much that it demanded a hat. We chose to hearken back to an earlier more innocent time in the musical development of the city when designing the Jaxon Kingston. We hope if any of the ska or rock steady giants of that era come across this page, they’ll feel compelled to ante up and start getting rude.
